We sit down with Freddie as he talks about New Balance and his latest release Fiberglass Kisses.
Have you always been a fan of New Balance?
I’ve always liked New Balances. I’ve always enjoyed the shoes that everyone wasn’t wearing. They’re not J’s, or Air Max’s.
What is your most favorite model of New Balance? Why?
I’ve always liked 574’s because they come in so many colorways and styles. I mainly like the classic styles.
Do you wear New Balance for recreation, to work out or?
I don’t exercise in my NB’s. They’re mainly for style and the casual wear. Probably because I wear the classic styles.
What would you like to see New Balance do that they haven’t already done?
It’s always cool when shoe companies utilize different types of materials and patterns.
Tell us a little bit about your new release Fiberglass Kisses?
Fiberglass Kisses is my 4th full-length album release. My 2nd release with my label, Mellow Orange. It’s an album featuring L. Santiago, Miles Bonny, J. Mitchell, Mar, Carlitta Durand, and Eric Lau. It’s an album focused on ‘Love’. The good and bad parts.
Can you describe your process in making the album?
If i’m working solo, it’s a breeze, so I could probably release a new album every month. ha. When working with other artists, it takes some time. Everyone has their own way and schedule of working, so I have to remain patient. Either way, putting an album together is fun creative process. With co-running a label, there always the business and logistic side, which at times, can be difficult and very time consuming. So I have to be able balance both sides intelligently, especially being an artist that releases my own music.
What do you want fans to take away from this release?
My last release (Midway), was more of a collection of different styles of my production. The main theme of this new album is ‘Love,’ so I wanted the sound and the whole vibe to encompass that, in my own way and style of conveying it.
Any tours planned for the near future? US? Overseas?
Still working out the details, but I’ll be doing a few shows in U.S., and a few more shows overseas for the new year. Be sure to follow me on my website, and social sites for updated info.
Any new upcoming projects in the works that we can expect?
I’ll continue to work on new music for release, nothing concrete as of yet. but definitely keep your ears open for more releases of our label, Mellow Orange. We have a ton of artists and projects lined up for the new year.
