We recently caught up with Robin Jeffery of The Hip Store to chop it up about the New Balance brand. The UK store has a pretty good selection of New Balance sneakers that fits the taste of any shopper that is looking for a variety. Read on for the full story. (All photos provided by The Hip Store)
How do you feel about the currently state of the sneaker game in the UK?
Flooded too many stores selling the same product. Brands need to restrict number of styles released. The fun was tracking the shoe down, not walking into every high street store stocking the same shoes as all your pals are wearing.
What do you feel is the most important part of a New Balance shoe? Why?
The Sole unit no doubt along with the pure aesthetics of a shoe, ultimately it needs to be hard wearing and comfortable.
What makes New Balance memorable? Why?
I was brought up in Cumbria which is where the NB factory is, Flimby is a beautiful part of England and I recommend the trip to everyone.
Why is it important to carry New Balance at your store?
We are always happy to stock made in UK products from UK brands, they also keep their distribution tight and limited which is why we find NB popular with the more discerning sneaker heads.
How long have you carried New Balance at your store?
For over 10 years.
How do you feel about the number of New Balance being released in the last year or so?
The more they release makes our job harder, albeit enjoyable, because they are all great shoes.
What do you take into account when choosing a New Balance shoe for your store?
Something for everyone, across the board from the commercial 430’s to the exclusive made in USA range.
What do you see New Balance doing differently than other brands?
They do not regurgitate the same styles over and over again, they keep it fresh.
Can we expect any new collaborations with New Balance and your store?
NB produced a collab shoe for the stores 20th Anniversary, it was made in Jamaican colours (see above) out of respect for my father who had passed away.
